ROLLOVER Controller - ROC Repair

Convertible models of BMW E-series and Mini vehicles are equipped with a dedicated Rollover Protection Controller (ROC) to ensure passenger safety in case of a rollover.

This controller is present in the following models:

• BMW 1 Series (E88)
• BMW 3 Series (E93)
• BMW 6 Series (E64)
• Mini Convertible

As a critical part of the vehicle's safety system, the ROC detects potential rollovers and activates protective measures for rear passengers.

Problem Description
In many cases, the ROC module fails after the car’s battery is replaced, reset, or drained. When this happens, the safety system (Airbag Module, also called MRS or ACSM) logs the following error:

9402 Rollover-protection controller: internal fault
